Application process

Find out more about the application stages for Sussex, from submitting an application through to enrolment and commission.

There are seven stages in the application process.

  • 1. Application

    What happens

    • Applications are submitted to Sussex via the agreed application route and reviewed by Admissions
    • Decisions are made based on academic criteria and completeness of the application

    What we need from you

    • Submit a complete application with all required documentation
    • Ensure qualifications and supporting documents are accurate
    • Confirm that the student meets the relevant entry requirements

    What to expect

    • Applications will be reviewed once complete
    • If additional information is required, this will be requested
    • Incomplete applications may delay processing
  • 2. Offer

    What happens

    • If the application is successful, an offer will be issued outlining any academic or administrative conditions

    What we need from you

    • Review offer conditions with the student
    • Support the student in meeting any outstanding conditions
    • Ensure all required documents are submitted promptly

    What to expect

    • Offer conditions will be clearly stated
    • Updates will be made once new documents are received
    • Delays may occur if required documentation is incomplete
  • 3. Deposit

    What happens

    • Postgraduate students are required to pay a tuition fee deposit to confirm their place
    • We do not currently require a deposit from undergraduate students

    What we need from you

    • Ensure the student understands deposit requirements and deadlines
    • Support timely payment
    • Confirm that payment has been completed

    What to expect

    • Deposit payments will be confirmed once received and processed
    • Confirmation may take several working days depending on payment method
  • 4. CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies)

    What happens

    • Once all academic and compliance conditions are met, a CAS can be issued to support the student’s visa application

    What we need from you

    • Ensure all required documentation is submitted
    • Support the student in providing accurate financial information
    • Prepare the student for any required pre-CAS checks

    What to expect

    • CAS will be issued once the student is fully CAS-ready
    • Additional checks (e.g. interviews or compliance review) may extend timelines

    Definition: CAS-ready

    • A student is considered CAS-ready once all academic and compliance conditions have been met
    • This typically includes holding an Unconditional Firm (UF) offer
    • Payment of any required deposit
    • Submission of required documentation
  • 5. Visa

    What happens

    • Students use their CAS to apply for a UK Student visa.

    What we need from you

    • Support students in preparing and submitting visa applications
    • Ensure documentation is accurate and complete
    • Keep up to date with UKVI requirements

    What to expect

    • Visa processing is managed by UKVI
    • Processing times vary depending on location and time of year
  • 6. Enrolment

    What happens

    • Students complete registration and enrolment at Sussex

    What we need from you

    • Support students in preparing for arrival
    • Ensure all pre-arrival steps are completed – encourage them to check emails regularly for instructions

    What to expect

    • Students must meet all conditions before enrolment
    • Further communication will be provided directly to students
  • 7. Commission

    What happens

    • Commission is processed in line with the Representative Agreement once eligibility criteria are met

    What we need from you

    • Ensure accurate student information is recorded
    • Follow the agreed process for commission claims

    What to expect

    • Commission will be processed in accordance with agreed terms
    • Timelines will depend on enrolment confirmation and internal processing
