Attitudes to Voices (A2V): An online survey for clinicians
Why are we doing this research project?
Many people sometimes hear a voice or voices that other people do not hear. Some of these individuals might seek help from health services for voice-hearing or for other difficulties they might be facing. However, there has been little research on the views and experiences of clinical staff about voice-hearing.
What is our goal?
The A2V Project seeks to understand more about:
clinicians’ thoughts, feelings and approaches to working with people who hear voices.
clinicians’ views and attitudes towards voice-hearing and the assessment of this experience.
The findings may be used to inform training on ways of working with this client group in the future.
Who can take part?
All clinicians working in primary care services (e.g. general practitioners, practice nurses/nurse practitioners, pharmacists, practice paramedics) or in mental health services (e.g. mental health nurse, support worker, occupational therapist, clinical psychologist, psychiatrist) working with children, adolescents and/or adults in:
Inpatient Mental Health Services/ Inpatient Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services
Secondary care services such as Assessment and Treatment Teams/ Secondary Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (e.g. Specialist CAMHSs)
Specialist services such as forensic or personality disorder services;
Early Intervention in Psychosis services
All clinicians working in primary care mental health services, such as IAPT; both step 2 and 3 professionals (e.g. ‘low intensity’ and ‘high intensity’ workers, including Primar mental health workers in CAMHS)
What will taking part involve?
If you decide to take part in this study you will be invited to complete an anonymous online survey. The survey can be accessed after the consent page.
The survey should take 30-40 minutes. Questions are mostly multiple choice and there will be some optional open-ended questions.
The survey will ask you questions about:
your views and experiences of working with young people who hear voices
