Sussex Sustainability Research Programme
The Sussex Sustainability Research Programme (SSRP) delivers interdisciplinary research to help achieve the global sustainability goals for humanity and the environment.
From the South Coast to South America
SSRP Round 8 research projects tackled everything from river pollution in Sussex to territorial land rights in South America. The projects confronted environmental and equity issues on local and global scales, addressing SSRP themes of 'South Coast Sustainability' and 'Ecosystems, Rights and Justice'. Centre of Excellence
The Sussex Sustainability Research Programme is a Centre of Excellence. Our Centres of Excellence are drawing together world-leading experts and innovative approaches, creating a critical mass of knowledge, skills and training – and proving that a challenge is only impossible until it's done.
Research with Impact
With the help of SSRP seed-funding and support, our community continues to scale up their projects and drive impactful sustainability research. More recently, SSRP researchers secured a share of a
- $8 million external grant to ramp up successful climate adaptation and resilience solutions across the Greater Horn of Africa;
- DEFRA funding of £12.5 million to work with Kew Science on nature-based solutions for climate change at the landscape level;
- and a £1.3 million UKRI Fellowship to continue work on increasing pollinator-friendly habitats, biodiversity and urban food production
