Book launch: DISCO! Music, Image, Dance
We’re delighted to announce the publication of our book DISCO! Music, Image, Dance, edited by Mimi Haddon, Michael Lawrence and Arabella Stanger, and featuring MAH colleagues present and past, Lucy Robinson and Daniel Kane. The collection takes an interdisciplinary approach to exploring disco’s untold stories—sonic, visual, and kinetic—from its popular heyday to its many afterlives.
To learn more, check out the book’s fantastic Prelude, “‘Put Your Body in It’: Disco, Divas and Dance Studies,” by dance and performance studies scholar, Melissa Blanco Borelli.
Everyone is also warmly invited to attend our launch, kindly co-sponsored by the Centre for Study of Sexual Dissidence and Sussex Performance Events and Research. Please join us on Wednesday 13 May, 5:30-7pm in Arts A108, where the editors will discuss the book’s journey, and Lucy Robinson and Michael Lawrence will speak to their individual chapters (on Jimmy Somerville and disco aerobics, respectively).
