The UK will rejoin the Erasmus study program in 2027, allowing British students to study for a year at European universities without paying extra fees, with a reciprocal arrangement for European students.
Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Sussex, Professor Sasha Roseneil said:
“The University of Sussex is delighted by the news that the UK will rejoin the Erasmus programme. Sussex was one of the very first universities to welcome an Erasmus student back in 1987, and over the years many thousands of Sussex students benefited from the learning and personal development that comes from studying abroad. Our university was also greatly enriched by the thousands of European students who came to study and learn on our campus.
“From our foundation in 1961, Sussex has had an international perspective and has fostered a diverse, multi-national community in our academic activities and outlook. We have always believed that education is enriched when students and scholars exchange ideas and perspectives across national borders and between cultures. Erasmus has been a powerful mechanism for building dialogue and understanding within Europe, and this is a hugely important moment for UK higher education.
“Situated on the south coast, with Europe just across the Channel, Sussex is uniquely placed to strengthen academic, cultural and student links with our European partners.”
