Course: BSc Economics (with a professional placement year), final year

I’m a Student Mentor and Ambassador for the Business School, currently in my final year of BSc Economics with a Professional Placement Year. I’m proficient in all areas of economics, particularly in quantitative modules, fluent in French and can also help with other queries.

As part of my degree, I also completed a professional placement, where I worked as an Assistant Economist at the Department for Work and Pensions. I’m more than willing to offer advice and support for students aspiring to undertake a placement year or apply for roles within the Civil Service. This could include CVs, applications, interviews and assessment centres.

Besides being a Student Mentor and Ambassador, I'm also an experienced Residential Advisor, passionate about supporting student welfare and wellbeing. For students who just want to have a chat about life, I’d be thrilled for you to approach me.

Ebenezer Egunlae

Course: BSc Accounting and Finance (with a professional placement year), final year

I am a third-year Accounting and Finance student, returning from a year-long placement in a top 10 accounting firm (doing audit). I was a student representative in my second year of university and also the course representative for Accounting and Finance in my second year. Time management and resource utilisation is something a lot of university students struggle with, which is something I believe I would be able to assist with as it can be the difference between grades. In my free time I enjoy learning Spanish, practicing piano and boxing. I look forward to meeting you and hope to be of assistance!

Elena NicolsonElena Nicolson

Course: BA Economics and International Development, final year

My name is Elena Nicolson, I am a final year BA Economics and International Development student. I have also just completed a summer placement at the Office for National Statistics in Wales. I grew up on the coast so I am quiteoutdoorsy and active and a regular gym goer. I have been a student ambassador for the Business School for over a year, so have an insight into many aspects of the courses offered at Sussex. Given my summer placement with the civil service, I can give tips on interviews and application forms and how to manage nerves. In addition to this I have a strong Microeconomics background and have recently learnt how to use software such as Python. As a joint honours student, with one half of my degree being more essay based, I feel I can support students in all aspects of their degree; whether it be exam revision techniques, how to approach an essay or proofreading advice. I also understand how stress can affect both performance and emotional state at uni, so I hope I can give tips on how to manage your time and introduce techniques to reduce any emotional problems students might face. In the future I hope to complete a postgraduate course, and work, abroad.
