Wisdom Kudjordji from the University of Ghana, who is researching incentives for teaching in Ghana under the supervision of Prof Kwame Akyeampong
The International Junior Research Associate (IJRA) scheme builds on the success of the well-established domestic JRA scheme that supports peer-to-peer relationships between Sussex faculty and high-achieving undergraduates considering a research career.
The IJRA scheme was established in 2014 to provide a small cohort of talented international students with the opportunity to work alongside a Sussex academic on an eight-week summer research project. The research projects build on emerging and established research collaborations with institutional partners.
Research placements are highly valued by international partners and the scheme is intended to:
- provide beneficial research experience in preparation for future PhD study;
- build connections between talented international researchers and Sussex faculty; and
- strengthen links between Sussex and its strategic partners
Since 2014, 31 international partner students have participated in the scheme. This year, Sussex is hosting 16 students across disciplines from partner universities including University of California Santa Cruz, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Cornell, Koc University as well as others.
The scheme is managed by the International Partnerships Office and Sussex Undergraduate Research Office, and is financed by the International Partnership Development Fund.
We would like to extend an invitation to colleagues to join the afternoon showcase event to meet this year’s IJRA’s and Sussex supervisors, as well as learn more about the scheme and the research being undertaken.
