January start courses

Start your degree at Sussex in January. Align your studies with your personal and career-development goals.

We offer January starts on different courses – from MSc degrees and our MBA, to Masters-level courses run in partnership with the NHS and a wide range of PhDs.

By starting your taught degree in January, you’ll study the same modules as our September intake, just on a different timeline. This means you’ll receive the same teaching experience and award-winning careers support. 

 The option of starting your studies in January: 

• offers you the flexibility to choose the start date that works best for you   
• helps you avoid the rush of getting visa and financial arrangements sorted for the September start
• gives you the chance to finish your studies in December and kick off your job hunt in the new year.
  

We understand that not everybody feels quite ready to begin their studies in September, particularly if you’ve just completed your undergraduate degree. If you’re an international student, our January intake gives you a few extra months to decide, apply for your visa and prepare to move overseas.

University-managed accommodation is available for international Masters students, subject to availability. We recommend applying early once applications open, with further details on options and timelines to be confirmed soon.

Students who join a Masters degree in January are eligible for relevant Masters scholarships (2026/27).
