Environmental Economics (L1088)

Spring teaching

On this module, you’ll be introduced to the economics of the environment and environmental policy.

You’ll discuss:

externalities
optimality
sustainability
cost-benefit analysis
their ethical foundations
methods for valuing environmental goods and services
policy instruments for pollution control
environment and development
environment and trade
environmental accounting for countries and corporations.

In your seminars, you’ll then apply the concepts learnt in lectures to environmental problems such as air pollution, climate change, acidification, and eutrophication.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
