Genomics and Bioinformatics (C7120L6)

Spring teaching

On this module, you’ll explore common types of genomic and proteomic data, available to life science researchers, that are stored in biological databases.

In small groups, you’ll learn how to access this data and use web-based tools to answer interesting biological questions.

Topics include:

• how to manipulate and analyse DNA and protein sequences
• how to model and analyse protein structures
• how to identify and interpret protein-protein interaction and pathway data.
• the general principles that underlie common bioinformatics and genomics methods
• how to use these principles to evaluate results.

By the end of the module, you’ll be able to use a range of bioinformatics and genomic web-based resources.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
