Introduction to Computer Security (G6077)

Autumn teaching
Computer security studies the protection of software and information stored on computers connected to the internet from theft, damage and corruption. This module explores the foundations of network and computer security, and provides an overview of the main computer system vulnerabilities and cyber attacks, as well as defenses and their limitations. The focus of the module is on the underlying principles and techniques, with examples of how they are applied in practice.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 44 hours of contact time and about 106 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology.
