The University of Sussex has entered into an education partnership with Blackmagic Design – one of only a handful of higher-education institutions in the UK to have this in place for its students.
The Blackmagic Design partnership is an important additional resource for students, giving them the opportunity to become certified users of industry-standard software before they graduate (a much sought-after industry skill). The partnership also enables Sussex’s MAH technical service team to expand their own expertise and become certified trainers in the software, with some staff already holding this certification.

Media Practice students at Sussex will learn on the same end-to-end post-production tools used across the creative industries, from editing and colour grading to audio, visual effects and motion graphics. Students on the Journalism, Media Production and Filmmaking degree courses can get hands-on experience using the Blackmagic software in MAH’s dedicated colour-grading studio on campus (pictured below).
The partnership is about more than simply learning to how to use the Davinci Resolve software. The partnership will also act as a bridge between education and industry, with Sussex graduates having crucial experience of working the way professional post-production teams work, with the attendant skills and opportunities for certification that are already recognised in the industry.
Students will have access to:

- professional certification pathway opportunities that are recognised across the creative industries
- masterclasses, support materials and expert engagement from Blackmagic Design.
