The Sex Diss Film Club is screening Rope, dir. Alfred Hitchcock (1948) in Silverstone SB309 on Wednesday, 3rd June from 4-6pm.
Two aesthete friends influenced by Nietzschian philosophy, Brandon and Philip strange a former schoolmate from prep school and hide his body in a trunk before a soirée at their home, while the trunk remains in the room throughout the evening. The crime is an intellectual exercise in committing the perfect murder. Alfred Hitchcock's Rope encapsulates homosocial co-habitation and queer subtext within the limitations of the Hays Code, and can be read through queer modes of living, and criticised for its association of homosexual tendencies with crime and the perverse.
Note: The film is rated PG.
After the screening, we will go to IDS bar to discuss the film.
