Electrifying the future: political economy of the UK’s EV policy sequencing
Abstract:
The study examines the UK’s EV policy evolution by employing the process tracing method. It finds that the UK's EV policy has changed significantly over the years from being primarily demand-focused, incentive-based, and oriented toward niche creation to focusing on supply-side, regime-destabilizing measures like ICE ban and ZEV mandates. The policy-politics-technology feedbacks underlying the UK’s EV policy evolution is useful for critically examining the key postulates of policy sequencing framework and policy feedback concept.

Dwarkeshwar Dutt is Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral (MSCA-PF) Fellow at the School of Global Studies, University of Sussex. His work explores interactions between policy, politics, and technology in the context of energy transitions by employing concepts and insights from policy studies, transition theory, political science, and science & technology studies (STS).
