Local and global partnerships
The Centre for Research on Changing Cultures and Societies is a globally-connected hub for excellence in societal and cross-cultural psychology.
Our research has an international reach and we are committed to fostering diverse partnerships that address the psychological causes and consequences of societal processes.
We invite researchers, institutions and prospective visiting scholars to engage with us through several collaborative pathways. We support a range of collaborations, including:
- research networks and capacity building: we participate in and initiate global research networks to support long-term collaboration
- visiting scholars: we regularly host international researchers at Sussex, supported by external fellowships
- outgoing study visits: our members undertake research visits and study leave with partner institutions worldwide
- joint funding applications: we actively develop competitive international grant proposals across disciplines.
Visiting scholars and fellowships
We welcome visiting researchers and students from around the world.
We have previously supported successful applications from visiting researchers at Sussex with a British Academy Visiting Fellowship and a grant under the Erasmus scheme.
We encourage prospective visitors to apply for the following schemes to support their stay with us:
-
British Academy Visiting Fellowships: bringing outstanding academics based in any country to Sussex
-
Leverhulme Visiting Professorships: bringing eminent international researchers to Sussex, to enhance the skills of students and staff
-
Newton International Fellowships (through British Academy): enabling the most promising international early-career postdoctoral researchers to work at Sussex for two years with the aim of fostering long-term international collaborations
-
Erasmus+ Exchange: the UK will join this scheme in 2027, when we will welcome students and scholars through established exchange pathways.
International collaborations and networks
Our research is global in scope. We regularly lead and partner on internationally collaborative projects, conferences and interdisciplinary meetings.
We have established large-scale research networks through funded grants such as:
-
Culture and Identity Research Network (ESRC-funded): a network that connects collaborators in over 30 countries
-
HONORLOGIC (ERC-funded): a large-scale project featuring collaborators from the Mediterranean region and beyond
-
UNDPOLAR (NORFACE-funded): a multi-team project investigating governance across nine EU countries.
We continue to expand our impact through pending and active applications, bridging social sciences and other disciplines.
We are open to establishing new international collaborations to conduct research, host meetings, or achieve applied impact.
