Partner highlight: Tata Institute of Social Sciences
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and Sussex share an institutional focus and expertise in Development, and staff regularly travel in both directions.
Together we made a successful £30K UK India Education & Research Initiative (UKIERI) bid, to run a Study in India programme in 2020, combining faculty expertise to develop a unique programme ‘Intersectional Inequalities: migration, sexualities and gender’. Though the programme was sadly curtailed by the pandemic, some students took part in a virtual alternative on contemporary India delivered by TISS faculty.
We were delighted that 2020 also saw Russell Whiting, Head of Social Work and Social Care, contribute a lecture to the TISS International Webinar Series on Mahatma Gandhi, exploring the concept of Gandhian social work in a UK context. We continue to build opportunities for our staff and students to engage including through participation in our Junior Research Associates scheme.
