The geonium chip

The CPW-cavity trap is a very promising candidate for solving some critical open challenges in planar Penning trap technology for electrons. A key aspect of the proposed novel design is its adequacy to be directly integrated within circuit-QED networks, thus providing those with one of the most accurately controllable objects in Physics, a geonium atom.

The geonium chip project is developing this new technology.

Planar microwave circuits have become a very solid and highly developed technology in nowadays microelectronics and represent a powerful technology-partner for future atomic physics experiments in chips. The choice of a CPW-cavity is also highly motivated by the great potential of planar microwave technology for experiments with complementary quantum technologies such as quantum dots, atom chips, superconducting two-level systems and others.
