Brightside Knowledge Bank - a huge resource of information on making choices about your education from Year 9 onwards. The site has a lot of guidance about choosing a course and a university, deciding whether to live away from home and information on careers.

Post-16 choices

Russell Group Informed Choices - download this guide or read online to find out all you need to know about choosing A levels or equivalent options.

Choosing a course and a university

The UCAS website lists every degree course in the country and has a course search.

The Which? university guide offers a full range of information on "what to study, where to go and how to get there."

Studential - information on higher education and an extensive library of personal statements to help you with your application.

Finance

Money Saving Expert has some good information on student loans and finance and a guide called You Can Afford To Go To Uni, which is available to download. You can also use Money Saving Expert's Student Finance resource.

Student Loans Company - all student loans in the UK are organised through this funding body. You can find information on tuition fees and financial support for your living costs while at university on this website.

Universities must provide financial support for students whose household (family) income in below a certain amount to make sure that everyone can afford to go to university.

The scheme at every university is different so look for information on 'bursaries', 'awards' or 'grants' to find out more.

At the University of Sussex it is called the First-Generation Scholars cash award.
