Online Access Summer School
Join us for a free four-day online summer school for first-year sixth form and college students. This programme is for you if you’re curious about university life, academic subjects and building confidence for your next steps.

Explore university life at Sussex
This immersive online experience, which takes place from Tuesday 30 June to Friday 3 July, gives you the chance to:
- explore a subject you’re interested in
- complete an academic project
- receive professional advice and guidance about university from our academics, professional staff and friendly team of Student Ambassadors.
If you complete our summer school, including finishing and submitting the practical project, you’ll be awarded with the equivalent of 8 UCAS points, which can be redeemed when you apply to University of Sussex courses only.
The Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) is a joint medical school between Sussex and University of Brighton. Summer school completion is not redeemable or transferable for any applications to BSMS courses.

By completing the summer school, you'll gain:
- first‑hand experience of university‑level academic sessions
- a completed practical project which can be used to support a future personal statement
- professional information, advice and guidance about university
- connections with peers and ambassadors.
Learn about the subjects you can study
As part of your online summer school you'll have the opportunity to learn about the subject areas you're interested in applying to. You can choose from:
- Law
- Engineering
- Psychology and Neuroscience
- Politics
- Maths & Physics
- Criminology and Sociology
- Business and Economics
- Global Development
- Media
- Arts
- History
- English.
You'll attend taster lectures from Sussex academics and complete a short academic project, with support from our experts, which could enhance your application to university.
Guidance and advice
Over the four days you'll receive tailored information and advice about university life, whether you're an international student or from the UK.
We can help you to:
- write a strong personal statement to develop your application to university
- explore career pathways associated with your subject of interest.
Connect and belong
Our online access summer school is a great opportunity to meet new people and grow your network.
You'll get to meet current student ambassadors who will be in contact with you each day and build a community with fellow prospective students who share your interests.
