This module is for you if you can already communicate with some independence in French at level B2/+ of the Common European Framework of Reference [CEFR].
Building on your existing level of proficiency, this module aims to:
- enable you to understand the main ideas and detail within extended discourse and to communicate effectively in French, with fluency, confidence and spontaneity, in a variety of contexts
- provide opportunities, across a range of topics, for you to practice understanding and communicating in French using the four language skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing, at a proficient level
- consolidate and develop your range of complex target language structures, syntax, and specialised vocabulary to allow consistent accuracy and control in use of French
- analyse aspects of the general social and cultural background of French in a professional context, through a variety of contextualised activities and materials, in a range of media, e.g. text; audio; audio-visual; digital.
Successfully completing this course is equivalent to level B2-C1 of the CEFR for Languages.
Module learning outcomes
- With reference to CEFR B2-C1 level, the student can demonstrate understanding of the main arguments of extended discourse in standard and increasingly specialised target language across a varied range of subjects.
- Effective planned and spontaneous communication in the target language within a variety of formal/informal contexts, including conventions of style and register.
- Acquisition of specialised vocabulary and application of complex language structures of the target language.
- Knowledge and analysis of some aspects of the general social, political and/or cultural and professional contexts of the language.
