Spring teaching

This module provides you with an overview of finance and accounting tools as used by small firms. The module introduces basic principles of accounting as would typically be used by entrepreneurs, with emphasis on real-world tools.

Once these principles have been introduced it then addresses more broadly the role finance plays in the survival and growth of small firms. It discusses how firms use capital to grow, and then covers the variety of sources firms may use for external capital, including (but not limited to) banks, business angels, venture capitalists and small cap stock markets.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
