Drug Discovery & Chemical Enterprise (F1031)

Autumn teaching

Building on an understanding of chemical principles, you will explore the fundamental knowledge required to critically analyse the structure of potential drug molecules and use the skills developed to design new, improved medicines.

You’ll also look at key aspects of chemical enterprise, using selected examples such as:

• transferring technology from the laboratory
• start-ups and funding
• patents and patent law 
• the structures and aims of big pharmaceutical/chemical companies.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
