Curriculum Knowledge 3: The World as a Stage (X6618)
30 credits, Level 6
Autumn and spring teaching
On this module, you’ll focus on the development of secure subject and curriculum knowledge for teaching. You’ll consolidate understandings of established phase appropriate curriculum models and published guidance (policy and research) to ensure you understand:
- the core substantive knowledge
- second order concepts and processes
- subject specific skills for each curriculum subject.
You’ll also secure an understanding of:
- how literacy and numeracy underpin successful curriculum design and pupil progression
- how skilled practitioners draw upon this understanding to create engaging sequences of learning.
You’ll complete the module with the knowledge, skills and understanding to:
- teach across the curriculum
- develop your own schemes of work.
A significant theme across the module will be an exploration of the role of arts education and digital media and design. You’ll consider how this enhances the education of young learners.
Drawing upon the theme: “All the World’s a Stage”, you’ll understand the value of art, design, music, drama, dance and new technologies as curriculum subjects alongside literacy and numeracy.
You’ll take responsibility in shaping your own curriculum and identifying your professional development needs. You’ll use current research and evidence-informed practice to analyse existing approaches and apply your professional knowledge and skills.
You’ll guide and challenge each other in modelling high quality:
- planning
- differentiation
- assessment
- evaluation.
