English Legal System (M3036)

Autumn teaching

On this module, you’ll gain an introduction to the English Legal System, covering:

• sources of law
• precedent
• approaches to statutory interpretation
• the impact of the Human Rights Act 1998 on the legal system.

You’ll also develop foundational legal, academic and transferable skills, including:

• legal research
• reading cases and statutes
• voice work for legal practice.

You’ll be equipped with the essential skills to progress in your law degree and future legal career.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
