Histories of Women in Music (W3111)

Autumn teaching
Women practitioners in music operate in all areas, but they’re less visible than male counterparts. Recent studies explore:
- the diversity of women’s creative practice and experience in music
- issues on race, class and trans and non-binary identity.
On this module, you’ll study women in music across genres, epochs and histories. You’ll draw on different disciplines to examine different performance and presentation styles. You’ll also develop your research and writing skills through a research project.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
