Film & TV Finance, Exhibition and Distribution (P4169)

30 credits, Level 5

Spring teaching

On this module, you’ll take a financial, exhibition and distribution-focused approach to exploring film and television production. You’ll gain the practical tools you need to prepare for your careers and develop your own projects. You’ll examine a variety of financing strategies, from mainstream commissioning models and public funding schemes to alternative methods such as crowdfunding, alongside industry-standard budgeting and fundraising practices.

Through case studies and practical exercises, you’ll explore a variety of exhibition platforms, including:

  • festivals
  • broadcast television
  • galleries
  • cinemas
  • online streaming
  • site-specific screenings.

You’ll think strategically about how and where your film or TV project can reach audiences across diverse markets, cultures and distribution channels.

Developing a business and exhibition plan will enable you to build skills in:

  • project planning
  • audience targeting
  • marketing
  • creating promotional assets (e.g. posters, and electronic press kits).

The module prepares students for industry contexts where creative practice is inseparable from financial sustainability and audience impact.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
