Emerging Technologies (P3095)

Autumn teaching
On this module, you’ll prepare for careers in media by exploring emerging and future-facing creative technologies including generative AI developments. The module blends theory with hands-on exploration of new tools, encouraging innovative thinking about media’s evolution. You’ll explore the politics of emerging technology, understanding innovation as an indication of social and political power.
Weekly themes will address technological innovation and new developments in:
- photography
- moving image
- sound
- interactive media.
Integrating contextual research with critical making, you’ll experiment with cutting-edge creative methods such as:
- speculative design
- coding
- physical computing
- fabrication.
The module will culminate in a speculative prototype where you’ll apply your critical knowledge to assess technological changes in the creative industries and devise progressive alternatives.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
