Critical Reading and Writing for Criminologists (L3121)

Autumn teaching

On this module, you’ll practice and reflect on approaches on reading and writing, gaining an excellent foundation for the rest of your criminology degree.

You’ll engage with modern published criminological work and take part in peer-to-peer critical discussion. Studying one book in depth, alongside a range of other texts, you’ll reflect on:

• writing styles
• constructions of arguments
• evaluations of evidence.

You’ll also encounter examples of critical thinking techniques.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
