Heat Transfer Applications (506H3)

15 credits, Level 7 (Masters)

Spring teaching

On this module, you'll be introduced to advanced topics related to heat transfer. You'll learn how to apply this theory to the design of key engineering components relevant to a range of technologies.

Topics covered include:

  • heat transfer due to convection
  • heat transfer due to phase change (such as boiling and condensation)
  • heat exchangers
  • measurement techniques.

These topics will be explored within the context of sustainable energy technologies including power cycles, heat pumps and refrigeration systems.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
