Academic Communication for International Relations and Development 1 (Q1135)

Autumn teaching
On this module, you'll develop the communication skills needed to excel in international relations and development studies, with a focus on building autonomy in academic work. You'll learn to:
- engage with thematic concepts such as globalization, the shifting power of the nation-state, and the rise of non-state actors
- apply key academic skills, including critical reading and essay writing, to your studies
- practise speaking skills to effectively contribute to seminars and tutorials
- enhance your autonomy as a learner.
This module is designed for students whose first language is not English and offers training equivalent to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
