History Special Dissertation: The Civil Rights Movement (V1378D)

30 credits, Level 6

Autumn and spring teaching

In this module, you'll address a historical problem in depth, setting your own research project and its questions.

You will:

  • resolve those questions with a module involving the design of a research outline
  • carry out your own research based on primary historical sources.
  • develop the skills necessary to write an extended piece of written work based on this (usually archival) research.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2025/26. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
