This module explores electronic music performance as a part of a critical music technology practice. It examines theories and techniques of improvisation, notation, electroacoustic composition, live spatialisation, instruments as performance systems, live electronics, new interfaces for musical expression, audio-visual performance, and electronic music performance within the contexts of historical and contemporary practice.

You will develop innovative performance projects that engage with a hybrid approach to the deployment of music technology systems. The module will also develop a range of skills in the presentation, preparation, and setup of performance projects and encourage a critical self-reflective practice.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
