Autumn teaching

In this module you will explore issues of social justice relating to childhood and youth.

You’ll critically engage with international policies that relate to childhood and youth, questioning both their origins and assumptions. You will also interrogate the assumptions of normative childhoods and explore the locations of childhood at home, school and work.

You will explore what childhood means in different cultural contexts, as well as challenges for those who are displaced during childhood (including unaccompanied migrant and refugee children). You’ll also examine a series of comparative case studies.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 66 hours of contact time and about 234 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2023/24.
