Spring teaching

The module further develops the knowledge and skills that you acquired in News and Feature Writing and Photojournalism in the autumn term. The focus in the spring is on audio-visual media.  

The module will develop your skills and knowledge for a variety of audio-visual journalism platforms. The concepts explored focus on similarities and differences between news and features production, interactivity, storytelling, participatory and inclusive journalism techniques for audio and vision, and other similar topics will be discussed. The module will enable you to further develop your practical skills of information gathering, writing, interviewing and storytelling and apply these to audio-visual outputs. You will also explore ethical issues in audio-visual journalism and critically reflect on your practice of audio-visual production.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 44 hours of contact time and about 256 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2023/24. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
