Autumn teaching

The aim of this module is to provide an introduction to Health Psychology and to explore fundamental theoretical and empirical issues that require attention and consideration by researchers working in this field. Topics covered are likely to include: health, well-being and the role of health psychology, socioeconomic inequalities in health, personality and health, stress and social support, fear appeals, positive psychology and health (with a particular focus on self-affirmation), ethical issues in health promotion, and applications of health psychology to specific health-related behaviours (for example eating behaviours, physical activity and sleep).

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 22 hours of contact time and about 128 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology.
