Introductory Biology (FND05)

Autumn teaching
As well as some grounding in how science works, the development of the ability to analyse and evaluate scientific information and methodology, this module will introduce a range of topics in Biology.
Topics will include: cellular life and components, variety of cell types, the chemistry of life, macromolecules of life, variety of life and how new species form.
There will be practicals to explore aspects of biology. A practical report will enable you to become familiar with scientific writing and notation. An essay and unseen examination are required, to familiarise you with these forms of assessment.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2023/24. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
