Advanced Coordination and Main Group Chemistry (857C1)

Spring teaching

This module explores the latest advances in coordination chemistry and reactive main group chemistry. It is based on recent findings in the subject, combining lectures with directed and independent reading, class discussion and critical review of the literature. Lectures will deal with non-classical coordination compounds of the transition metals, incorporating organic and main-group derived ligands, discussing their synthesis, structural characteristics and reactivity. Conceptual models associated with understanding their behaviour will be outlined and discussed. The formal lectures will be augmented with in-class discussions and problem-solving exercises.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2022/23. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
