This module looks at international film of the last five decades. A range of films will be studied in order to explore: genre and art cinema; post-colonialism and political cinema; gender and feminist cinema; and globalisation and popular cinema. We will study important movements in post-war film culture, including Third Cinema from Brazil and political cinema from Senegal. We will explore the relationship between gender, history, allegory and national cinema (examples may include films from Tunisia, Iran and Argentina).
