MRes Research Project in Evolution, Behaviour or Conservation (832C1)

90 credits, Level 7 (Masters)

Spring and summer teaching

On this module, you’ll carry out an independent, original, in-depth research project. You’ll work in consultation with a research supervisor on a specialised topic in animal behaviour, evolutionary biology or conservation biology (according to their degree).

Your project will include:

• bespoke, project-specific training in practical skills
• the generation of hypotheses
• the production of data, statistical analysis and interpretation of results
• the presentation of results
• a dissertation in the form of a scientific paper.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 900 hours of work. This breaks down into about 14 hours of contact time and about 886 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2023/24. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
