Researching Progressive Futures: Generating Human Flourishing
Wednesday 22 April 17:30 until 19:00
University of Sussex Campus : Chowen Lecture Theatre, Brighton and Sussex Medical School
Speaker: Prof Pamela Thurschwell, Prof Barbara Crossouard, Prof Shqiponja Telhaj, Professor Kate Howland
Part of the series: Researching Progressive Futures series
How do we imagine and promote liveable futures for youth in times of global instability? What forms of experience or education can lead to satisfied, safe and engaged lives in an environment where the human itself is threatened by escalating omni-crisis: climate catastrophe, war, the immigration crises that follow from them, economic instability and collapse, and the cost-of-living and loss of jobs crises arising alongside the rise of AI? Can we use this moment to rethink educational and life possibilities for and with young people creatively?
Join the Sussex School for Progressive Futures for this free inaugural lecture series, celebrating the appointment of our newest professors from across the University. In this event, we explore the transformational theme of Human Flourishing from different perspectives, sparking bold, interdisciplinary conversations about how we support young people in dark times.
At this event we will hear from:
- Pamela Thurschwell, Professor of Modern and Contemporary Literature at the School of Media, Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Media, Arts and Humanities
- Barbara Crossouard, Professor of Theory in Education at the School of Education and Social Work, Faculty of Social Sciences
- Shqiponja Telhaj, Professor of Economics at the University of Sussex Business School
- Kate Howland, Professor of Interaction Design at the School of Engineering and Informatics, Faculty of Science, Engineering and Medicine.
Reserve your free spot now.
The talks will be followed by refreshments in the foyer in celebration of our newly appointed colleagues. All are welcome.
