Summary
I am am Emeritus Professor of Educational and Social Disadvantage at the University of Sussex. My research interests focus on the relationship between educational and social (dis)advantage. Specific areas of interest include:
- School exclusion as a disciplinary process;
- Multiagency working, including in relation to Virtual Schools in England;
- Inequalities in access to higher education;
- Policy understandings of, and approaches to, child poverty in schools, including in relation to the Pupil Premium in England.
In the past I have worked in mainstream secondary schools, a Further Education College and a Pupil Referral Unit as well as a family support worker for a school inclusion project.
Although I continue to be actively engaged with research I am no longer able to accept new applications for Doctoral Supervision.

Post: I am an Emeritus Professor in Educational and Social Disadvantage in the School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sussex.
