  • Emeritus Professor of Educational and Social Disadvantage 

Summary

I am am Emeritus Professor of Educational and Social Disadvantage at the University of Sussex. My research interests focus on the relationship between educational and social (dis)advantage.  Specific areas of interest include:  

  • School exclusion as a disciplinary process;
  • Multiagency working, including in relation to Virtual Schools in England;
  • Inequalities in access to higher education;
  • Policy understandings of, and approaches to, child poverty in schools,  including in relation to the Pupil Premium in England.  

In the past I have worked in mainstream secondary schools, a Further Education College and a Pupil Referral Unit as well as a family support worker for a school inclusion project.

Although I continue to be actively engaged with research I am no longer able to accept new applications for Doctoral Supervision.
