Biography
Ioannis holds a PhD in law (Sussex Law School). His expertise is in international humanitarian law (also known as the law of armed conflict) and in international criminal law. His doctoral dissertation is titled:
"Generate and Engage: The Autonomisation of the Critical Targeting Functions of Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems Through the Lens of International Humanitarian and International Criminal Law".
His previous education includes a BA in International European Economic and Political Studies from the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, Greece (2004, with merit) and an MSc in International Relations from Royal Holloway University of London (2006, with merit). His dissertation focused on "The Real Dimensions of the War on Terrorism in the 21st Century" from an international law perspective.
On May 2016, Ioannis was twice successfully nominated by the Sussex Law School for the prestigious scholarship of the Modern Law Review for two consecutive years (2016-2018). Between May 2016 and July 2020, he was a Research Assistant with the Social Policy Research Unit (SPRU) as a member of the Harvard Sussex Program (HSP) in the area of International Security and Chemical and Biological Warfare.
On June 2017, Ioannis became an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Social Research Methods at the University of Sussex. Between October 2017 - July 2018, Ioannis taught as a PTHP Lecturer at the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies (University of Portsmouth). From September 2016 until 2020, he taught for the Sussex Business School and the Department of Sociology and Law at LPS Sussex.
Ioannis is currently working on turning his PhD thesis into a book.
