Institutional Open Access deals & discounts

The Library enables Sussex researchers to publish their work Gold Open Access through a variety of Transformative Agreements and other institutional memberships.

Researchers wishing to publish journal articles via the Gold route to Open Access (OA) may be required to pay a charge, known as the Article Processing Charge (APC). The Library has arranged several institutional memberships and Transformative Agreements to help cover these costs. These are available to researchers affiliated with the University of Sussex or BSMS. BSMS researchers can find more information here.

Criteria for each agreement are detailed below but please contact the Open Access team as early as possible if you’re planning to publish - the sooner you do, the more we can help!

Transformative Agreements are labelled separately as these offer potential routes to compliance with certain UK funders’ Open Access policies, including Wellcome and UKRI.

The Library administers block grants to support Gold Open Access for research funded by UKRI, Wellcome, CRUK, and BHF and may be able to provide support for Gold Open Access publication outside of these deals.

Please note that the Library does not wish to influence authors’ decisions on where to publish and the list below is not an endorsement of any particular publisher. We always welcome suggestions for Open Access deals and memberships.

If you are unsure about any of the deals below, please contact the Library Open Access team on 01273 877553 or openaccess@sussex.ac.uk.
