The Laboratory of Apiculture and Social Insects moved from the University of Sheffield to the University of Sussex in February 2008, when Professor Francis Ratnieks was hired as Professor of Apiculture in the School of Life Sciences. LASI was officially opened by Lord Robert May of Oxford on the 7 of April 2009. Professor Ratnieks is the only Professor of Apiculture in the UK.
