Presentation of two case studies of lush forests in India under the stress of mining, where indigenous forest dwellers are caught in the cross-fire between companies/government, and climate change. Damodaran will present the environmental history of Saranda Forest in Jarkhand. Serper will tell a visual story – using GIS technology - about the Niyamgiri, where grass roots people’s movement and international solidarity saved the mountain from mining in 2013.
