Biological Safety Risk Assessment Introduction and Overview

This training session provides an overview of the University’s Biological Safety Risk Assessment (BSRA) framework and the requirements for the approval and management of biological activities involving hazardous biological materials. Participants will learn how to identify biological hazards, evaluate risks associated with biological agents, GMOs, cell cultures, primary samples, bioactive compounds, and other biological hazards, and apply appropriate control measures using a structured risk assessment approach. The session will also explain the BSRA submission, approval, review, and governance processes, including the role of Biological Safety Officers and the Biological Safety Sub-Committee.
Who should attend?
The course is intended for PIs, Activity Leads, and anyone responsible for planning, undertaking, or supervising biological work including Researchers, Technicians or Teaching staff.
