This panel will explore girlhood as a space where girls are constantly made both visible and invisible. We will discuss how girls are celebrated, scrutinised or overlooked depending on where they are and who is watching. From classrooms to online spaces to public streets, we will consider how girls learn to navigate the shifting expectations placed on their bodies and create their own ways of being seen. The aim is to open up discussion and debate on what it means to grow up as a girl today. The panel will include: Rachel Larkin (social work), Louise Taylor (education) and Vanisha Jassal (Centre for Child Protection, University of Kent).
