Speaker: Sarah Jaffe
On Wednesday, 22 April, the Department of Sociology and Criminology will host American writer, reporter, and researcher Sarah Jaffe. Her most well-known book is Work Won’t Love You Back: How Devotion To Our Jobs Keeps Us Exploited, Exhausted, and Alone (Bold Type Books, 2021), an impressive outline of contemporary phenomena of what she calls the 'labour of love', where she harshly challenges one of the most poisonous elements in our lives, the productivist ethos deployed merely to chain us to worsening conditions of work and to accept its parameters. The event will discuss this and other aspects of her research. Sarah's new book, Heterosexuality is Broken, is forthcoming from One Signal. Her journalism covers the politics of power, from the workplace to the streets, and her writing has been published in The Nation, The Washington Post, The Guardian, The New Republic, the New York Review of Books, and many other outlets.
