Hello,

With the summer term coming to a close on Friday, I wanted to take the opportunity to wish you all the best in your assessments, and to thank you for all your hard work and for being a part of our wonderful community here at Sussex. It was lovely to look back and reflect on 24/25 in this week’s edition of Experience Sussex!, which you will find in your inbox from Monday.

If you are a continuing student, you will hear from me periodically over the summer, and we’ll keep you updated with information about support and activities. For those of you who are finalists, congratulations on getting to this stage, and I look forward to being able to celebrate with many of you at your summer graduation ceremony in July.

Finally, I know for some international students there has been concern regarding the recent government white paper on immigration.

I want to reassure you that there will be no immediate change in the rules for current students and we will continue to keep you informed of any changes that may impact you, and our support services are here to help you on any matter that may affect you as a student.

Assessment support

If you are submitting work over the next couple of days, you may find our guide to submitting work and accessing feedback in Canvas helpful. It takes you through the process of submitting assessments online, as well as understanding any feedback from your tutors. You can also revisit our Digital Learning Guide to Sussex Direct and Canvas, which was created by students to help you when preparing for assessments.

If you experience something short-term and unexpected that affects you and your academic performance, you might need the University to give you additional consideration for your exams or assessments. Find out about submitting an exceptional circumstance claim on the Student Hub.

Mental wellbeing support over the summer

Just like physical health, there are things you can do to look after your mental wellbeing, even when you’re not experiencing difficulties. The University is here to support your wellbeing during term time, during assessments and also during the vacations. International Students Career Forum, Tuesday 27 May

Are you an international student looking to take the next step in your career journey? The International Students Career Forum is here to help you navigate your career journey with practical support, expert insights, and real-world advice.

Workshops for postgraduate dissertations

As you progress with your dissertation research, the Library is pleased to offer a series of workshops designed to support you at each stage of your project. These sessions will cover a range of essential skills, including advanced literature searching, managing references, and using research tools effectively. Find out more and sign up via Eventbrite.

Moving out of your campus accommodation over the next few weeks? Don’t forget to pay to park

Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras are located on campus road entrances and exits and record the time a vehicle enters and exits campus. The first 60-minutes after entering campus is free, then any time spent on campus over that must be paid for. Parking payment will be due whether your vehicle is in a car park, using a drop-off/pick-up bay or on-street parking, or is elsewhere on campus. If you are being collected by car at the end of term, don’t forget to check that parking has been paid for before you leave. More information can be found on our website. 

New public artwork on campus – share your thoughts

As part of the West Slope development, the University is continuing its proud tradition of public art by commissioning a new piece for Sussex Lawns, an inviting green space near the new Health and Wellbeing Centre. From now until Sunday 2 June, you are invited to view five shortlisted concept designs on display in the Library café area. These early-stage artworks reflect local materials and natural surroundings, and your feedback will help shape the final selection.
