Last updated: Thursday, 23 November 2023

Taking place from 2.30pm-3.30pm on Wednesday 6 December, our next online Research with Impact forum will focus on facets of research in Sussex AI - language models, emotion AI, and complex networks.
Professor Thomas Nowotny will briefly discuss the work of Sussex Artificial Intelligence, a Centre of Excellence which draws together world-leading experts and innovative approaches, creating a critical mass of knowledge, skills and training.
Dr Temitayo Olugbade will discuss the application of AI to recognise emotional experiences and behaviour using sensor data, particularly in everyday settings such as the home or to assist people living with chronic pain.
Professor Luc Berthouze will consider how we employ the same kind of tools we use to study the brain to help prevent outages in large-scale communication networks such as Netflix, or banking systems.
Professor Julie Weeds will talk about the use of language models to improve document retrieval in the areas of mental health support and identification of online reports of wildlife exploitation.
